Thierry Henry will welcome Arsenal target after 2021 comments

Arsenal are eyeing one of the most stunning moves of the summer transfer window, with the Daily Star reporting that the Gunners want to sign N’Golo Kante from Chelsea.

Kante has gone from being a name few had heard of in 2015 to one of the best midfielders in the world. He has won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, and, of course, the World Cup with France.

The Daily Star reports that his contract with the Blues expires next summer.

He is now 31 years of age. And his form for Chelsea has dipped at times. But there is absolutely no doubt that it would be one of the most outstanding moves if Arsenal could somehow get a deal done.

Certainly, one Arsenal legend who would welcome such a deal is Thierry Henry. The striker has seen Kante become such a key man for his national team over the last six years.

He has previously spoken about how taken aback he has been by the way the midfielder reads the game.

He told Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel: “I rarely see a player who arrives before the ball. Like, he already knows the ball is going to land there. Sometimes he arrives before the ball and I’m like, “how does he do that?!”

“He reads the game to be able to intercept the ball without fouling or tackling most of the time. He arrives at the same time as the ball, sometimes earlier.”

Arsenal eyeing Kante

It would be a massive statement if Arsenal could sign Kante from Chelsea. The Gunners must strengthen in the middle of the park before the transfer deadline passes.

Kante can play in a variety of roles and can deal with being given a number of different tasks. So he would be able to play with any of the other midfielders in the Arsenal squad.

Chelsea’s stance on selling him will be interesting. He does only have one year left on his deal. And extending his terms would take him right into the twilight of his career.

So selling him this summer may represent the best chance to recoup a good portion of the £32 million that they spent six years ago.

Henry, for one, would be delighted to see Arsenal get a deal for Kante across the line.
