Mason Mount allegedly demands £300k-per-week according to the reports

A lot has been made of Mason Mount’s contract situation at Chelsea with many sources claiming he’s demanding up to £300K-per-week to extend his stay at the club.

However, according to The Athletic’s Simon Johnson, Mount isn’t just insisting on a hefty pay rise. Other details of Chelsea’s offer have stalled the midfielder from committing to the club.

To start with, Mount wants complete control of his image rights, per the source. This is something Chelsea barely offers players. Kylian Mbappe enjoys it at PSG but no one at Chelsea has complete control of the earnings from their image rights.

Mount is also negotiating performance-related bonuses. This perhaps may have affected the player’s form this season. From Chelsea’s best player last season, Mount cannot compete with Thiago Silva for that honour this year.

Finally, Mount has a lot of questions about the contract length being offered by the club. Chelsea are offering him a long-term deal as they gave to Reece James and Trevor Chalobah. This type of contract does not give players a lot of room to negotiate in the future – Mount wants a shorter deal – perhaps three years or even less.

If the club cannot come to an agreement with the Englishman they will likely sell him in the summer, as Fabrizio Romano says. That would prevent him from leaving for free next year.
