CHELSEA have been given the chance to sign PSG star Lionel Messi in the summer window.
While Chelsea are not in the Champions League next season, that will not stop owner Boehly from splashing the cash and someone to score goals is top of the wish list.
Incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino knows that he needs to add a striker to that front-line that has the ability to find the back of the net on a weekly basis – or he could end up losing his job very quickly.
And Messi is still one of the biggest names in football and one of the greatest in the history of the game.
He has been given crazy offers to leave Europe and head over to Saudi Arabian football in a deal worth £480 million – but he is still keen to stay at the highest level of the game and compete against the best.
Barcelona would, therefore, be the most favourable destination, considering his grand history with the club and being pals with manager Xavi, but they may not be able to offer him the deal that he wants because of their financial issues.
“It’s up in the air,” the Barca boss said on Messi.
“It depends on many things. There is not much more I can say. Leo is a spectacular footballer.
“He is a friend. From there, it depends on many things, but above all on his intentions and what he wants.”
Look – Messi is a wonderful player that still has the ability to play at the highest level – but he never really set the French League alight and coming to the Premier League now at this stage of his career – may be a mistake.
It would be a shock to see him NOT sign for Barcelona – but we cant see him signing for CHELSEA
