About to make a phone call, as Chelsea set to complete signing of 24-year-old goal machine

Chelsea are about to step up efforts to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli with the Blues now set to make a phone call to the champions of Italy.

That is according to Sky Sports Journalist Massimo Marianella.

So, what is the latest on Victor Osimhen and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it seemed as if the Nigeria international would not be going anywhere this summer after Le Parisien claimed that Napoli want a staggering £155m for their talisman.

However, that doesn’t appear to have put Chelsea off the man described as a phenomenon by the New Telegraph.

Marianella believes the Blues are ready to speak to Napoli about a deal for Osimhen after making excellent progress on their task of shipping out deadwood, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech all set to leave, or have already left.

The Italian journalist said: “In the last few hours in England they say that even Chelsea are about to make a phone call to Napoli for Osimhen. It seems that one door is closed, which is that of Real Madrid, the two most open to catch a striker remain Manchester United and PSG. At that point, a place would also open up at Tottenham.”

In the 2022/23 campaign, the Nigerian fired Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years with 31 goals across all competitions, cementing himself as one of the best strikers in Europe.

Therefore, it is no surprise to see heavyweights such as Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG all take a look at Osimhen.

Osimhen speculation suggests Chelsea view Jackson as squad option

Rumours about Osimhen have began to heat up just as Chelsea are ready to announce the signing of Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal.

The Senegalese striker has passed his medical, and is set to sign an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Despite that, the fact Chelsea are supposedly about to make a phone call to ask about Osimhen suggests Mauricio Pochettino does not view Jackson as his main man – not for now at least.

Nevertheless, that should provide the 22-year-old with added motivation to prove himself at Stamford Bridge.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Osimhen’s name, as Chelsea seem determined to sign the prolific marksman this summer.
