Transfer News LIVE: Edu and Mikel Arteta make decision on Arsenal first January signing before the deadline day

Former Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is keen on a return to the Premier League and wants to join Arsenal.

The Dutchman joined Paris Saint-Germain last summer after five years at Anfield, where he won the Premier League and the Champions League.

Wijnaldum was a fans’ favourite on Merseyside but he’s struggled in the French capital, making just 11 starts in Ligue 1.

The 31-year-old is now minded to leave the club and Sky Sports claim he wants to return to England to rediscover his best form in the Premier League.

And Wijnaldum is said to favour a move to Arsenal, who he admired when he was growing up.

The Gunners ‘appeal’ to the Dutchman and the club are in dire need of reinforcements in central midfield, with the area considered a priority by Mikel Arteta.

PSG are interested in signing Tottenham outcast Tanguy Ndombele before the window closes and that could unlock Wijnaldum’s availability.

The Ligue 1 giants have consistently insisted that Wijnaldum is not for sale but Ndombele would add further options in a packed midfield.

For now, Arsenal remain focused on signing a striker but their hopes of signing Dusan Vlahovic has been dashed after Juventus agreed a £67m deal for the Serbian.

Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak is an alternative target, while Real Madrid have reportedly offered Luka Jovic to the Gunners on loan.
